Michal Roth graduated from the Masaryk University in Brno, Czech
Republic (MSc in Physical Chemistry (1978)) and joined the Institute
of Analytical Chemistry of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in
Brno. He obtained his PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the
Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences (1984), and then completed a
postdoctoral fellowship at the Department of Chemistry, Indiana
University, Bloomington, Indiana, USA (1985-1986). He returned to the
Institute of Analytical Chemistry in Brno and served as the Deputy
Director of the Institute (1993-2005), as the Head of the Department
of Supercritical Fluid Extraction and Chromatography (2001-2013), and
the Head of the Department of Fluid Phase Separations (2013-2024). His
research interests have focused on thermodynamic background,
application and modeling of separation methods of analytical
chemistry, including those employing near- and supercritical fluids.
His research stays abroad included the Physical Chemistry Laboratory,
University of Patras, Greece (1988, 1 month), the Department of
Physical Chemistry II, Ruhr University, Bochum, Germany (1994, 2
months), the Department of Chemical Engineering, Kangwon National
University, Chuncheon, Republic of Korea (1999, 1 month), and the
School of Chemical Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology,
Atlanta, Georgia, USA (2001, 2 months).
